Message From Our Founder - 2011

Fulcrum revenues and profitability were very strong in 2010.

The broader economic recovery throughout last year helped our organization achieve higher revenues. Many large organizations had significant “pent up” demand for project based work they needed to start so they weren’t at a long-term competitive disadvantage. In addition our industry typically experiences a "lift in revenue", given the history of companies increasing consulting spend 18- to 24-month after the start of a general recession.

Most of our growth in 2010 was oriented around tactical assistance as opposed to large projects, but since 4Q, 2010 we started seeing more and more opportunities to engage on large projects that are strategic in nature. While there is variability, we are beginning to see real investment in longer term, revenue improvement initiatives.

Fears of a double-dip recession by many of our customers have subsided to a degree, and we have started to see more optimism in our customer’s organizations for a steady recovery. We see that current market perspective translating into improving demand across the services we provide and the geographies where we have a presence.

Our backlog of work and opportunity funnel is higher as we entered 2011 than it was at this point last year. We expect to be very busy. Our focus is squarely on growth over the long term, both organic and through prospective acquisitions in targeted new markets. We expect to see increased customer demand for: Business and IT advisory services, particularly around business and workforce analytics, security and cloud computing; corporate sustainability, helping customers strengthen their current risk management frameworks, drive efficiency in business operations and seize growth opportunities. If there’s one word that sums up our outlook for 2011, it’s “Optimism”.

Our longer term strategy is largely unchanged:

  • To focus on ensuring high customer satisfaction and business return from work we are doing.
  • To provide great talent that delivers the best of what we have to offer by mobilizing our industry and functional expertise and by leveraging our strong network of consultants.
  • Continue to invest in thought leadership and in new approaches to ideas that have real impact and relevancy to our customers.

Most importantly, we need to continue investing in attracting, developing and retaining the best available employees and consultants in the marketplace.

Clients are increasingly focused on receiving high returns from their consulting partnerships. They’re also looking for models of support and collaboration between consultants and their own people. Ensuring high and consistent value and finding effective ways to work collaboratively across a range of complex situations have been long-time strengths and differentiators for our organization.

My Role and Responsibilities for Fulcrum Consulting
In 2011, I will continue to focus my energies on new market expansion and supporting national relationships in the markets we serve.

Our goal and overriding company philosophy is to help our customers develop, build, and operate strong businesses that deliver sustained value to their shareholders, customers and employees and to be recognized as a premier provider of consulting services in the markets we serve.

We find ourselves in a new year with renewed commitment, enthusiasm and optimism. Our strong financial performance continues to be a lagging indicator of the determination, energy, creativity and effort our organization puts into helping our customers on a daily basis. For the 4th year in a row, Fulcrum Consulting was rated as the No. 1 or 2 consulting firm by our largest customers as compared to our peers. I feel fortunate and proud to be working with some of the best people in our industry.
